Privacy Policy

CrowdPour shows you how busy the bars around you are, and lets you coordinate a night out with friends. Doing that needs your location and not much else. This page says exactly what is collected, what is stored, who can see it, and how to delete it.
Short version. Your location is used to work out which venue you are at. Venues get counts, never names — the visit log CrowdPour keeps for them carries no identifier of any kind. Other people see only what your privacy settings let them see, and Ghost mode shows them nothing. Deleting your account deletes your profile, your stats and your social data.
What we collect
- Account details. If you sign up with an email address and password, we store that email address. If you use Sign in with Apple, we store whatever Apple passes along — which is a private relay address if you chose to hide your email. If you use Sign in with Google, we store your Google email address. We also keep when you last opened the app, and when it last ran in the background, so we can tell whether people keep using CrowdPour. Nobody else can see either.
- Your profile. Display name, handle, profile picture if you upload one, favorite venue if you pick one, and your privacy settings.
- Location. Precise location while you are using the app, and in the background if you allow it, used to work out which venue you are standing in. Background location is what lets CrowdPour notice you arrived somewhere without you having to open the app first.
- What you create in the app. Messages, venue comments, bar crawls, friend and group memberships, and the visit history behind your stats and leaderboard placement.
- Device notification token. An anonymous push token, so notifications can reach your phone.
- Feedback you send. What you write on the feedback page, the email address you give if you want a reply, and, when you open it from the app, the app and iOS version. It reaches us as an email and is not stored anywhere else.
- Usage analytics. Which features get used — screens opened and actions taken, such as "a crawl was created" — linked to your account ID (never your name, handle or email) so we can tell whether people come back. No coordinates, no message text, no record of which bars you visit, and screens are recorded as route patterns rather than as who was on them.
What we do not collect
- We do not sell or rent your personal information. No advertiser, data broker or other company receives anything about you from CrowdPour.
- We do not use third-party advertising or ad tracking.
- We do not read your contacts or use your microphone. The camera is used only to scan a friend's QR code, and the only photo we receive is one you choose as a profile or group picture.
- We do not keep a location trail. What your friends see is replaced each time it updates, and stops showing when it expires: at the bar's closing time, or an hour after the app last saw you if location is set to While Using. It is not a history.
Who can see your location
Nobody, until you decide otherwise. Sharing is controlled by two settings in Settings → Privacy, and they do different jobs:
- Who can see you — everyone, friends only, your groups only, or nobody at all.
- What they see — the exact venue, just the neighborhood, "out tonight" with no place attached, or nothing.
Ghost mode turns both off. You still get crowd levels, stats and chat; other people simply do not see you.
What venues see
Bars with a CrowdPour dashboard account see aggregate numbers for their own venue — how many people came, at which hours, average visit length, how many were returning. They see this as counts.
They cannot see who you are. The per-visit log that produces those numbers is written without a user ID, a device ID, a handle or anything else that points back at a person. A row says that somebody was there, for how long, and nothing more. Venues cannot look you up, cannot see your profile, and cannot be told that a particular customer walked in.
Where it is stored
CrowdPour runs on Google Firebase — Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Cloud Firestore for app data, profile and group pictures included, and Google Analytics for Firebase and PostHog for usage analytics. Push notifications are delivered through Expo's notification service and then Apple's. Data is stored on Google's servers in the United States and is protected in transit and at rest by Google's infrastructure. Access to app data is enforced by server-side security rules, not by the app asking nicely.
How long we keep it
- Live presence — expires roughly 30 minutes after your last update.
- Venue comments — scoped to a single night.
- Your profile, stats, chats and groups — kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- The anonymous venue visit log — kept indefinitely, because it is what venue trends are built from. It has no identifier in it, so there is nothing in it to attach to you.
Your choices
- Turn off analytics in Settings → Privacy. It applies immediately and is remembered on your device. Turning it off sends one last event recording that you did, so we know how many people choose to, and nothing after that.
- Revoke location access in iOS Settings at any time. Crowd levels for other venues keep working; CrowdPour just stops knowing where you are.
- Turn off notifications in iOS Settings, or per-category in the app.
- Delete your account in Settings → Account. This removes your profile, handle, stats, memberships and the messages tied to your account. It cannot be undone, and the anonymous venue counts your visits contributed to stay, because there is no way to identify which of them were yours.
Children
CrowdPour is about bars and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who can see it, the date at the top changes and the app will tell you. Continuing to use CrowdPour after that means the new version applies.
